Mechanic Falls council extends town manager contract, sets FY25 budget schedule and accepts PSAP contract

At its Jan. 8 meeting the Mechanic Falls council unanimously approved a contract extension for Town Manager Vic Hodgkins, adopted the FY2025 budget schedule, and accepted a slightly increased PSAP contract for 2024.
The Mechanic Falls Town Council voted Jan. 8 to extend the contract of Town Manager Vic Hodgkins, finalized a timetable for the FY2025 budget process and accepted the 2024 PSAP contract for emergency call answering.
Councilor Ray Lavoie moved to accept the negotiated contract extension for the town manager; Councilor Sonny Morgan seconded and the motion passed 5-0. The council also approved a schedule for the FY2025 budget: a joint meeting of the Budget Committee and department heads on Feb. 12, a Feb. 26 follow-up, a tentative joint public hearing and council meeting on March 4 (with a possible continuation March 11 if needed), a joint public hearing on March 18, and the council’s vote and warrant preparation on April 1 for the June 11 ballot. Councilor Darrell Young moved to accept the FY’25 schedule; Councilor Ray Lavoie seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On public-safety administration, the council accepted the 2024 PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) contract, which the Town Manager said increased slightly due to population changes; Councilor Young moved to accept the contract and Councilor Stotts seconded the motion, which passed 5-0.
The council also scheduled a Capital Improvement Plan workshop with the Budget Committee at 5:30 p.m. before the Feb. 5 council meeting and agreed to review the Council Rules of Order at the February meeting.
The council appointed Chair Tarsha Downing as its representative to the RSU#16 Budget Committee and named Beau Fairbrother as the citizen representative; the motion passed unanimously.
