Town Manager reports ARPA balance, no foreclosures, insurer flags Fire Association roof; bridge naming letter and state stabilization shortfall noted

At the Feb. 5 Mechanic Falls meeting, Town Manager Vic Hodgkins reported several administrative updates: there were no foreclosures this cycle; nomination papers for municipal office become available March 4 with an April 12 filing deadline and a June 11 election; and the town has just over $20,000 remaining in ARPA funds.
Hodgkins said MMA, the town’s insurance provider, has indicated the roof on the Fire Association building behind the Town Office needs replacement. He described a proposal in which the Fire Association would donate the building to the town (it sits on town property), retain access for storage and pay for shingles while the town would cover labor. Hodgkins said, if the council agrees, the town attorney would draft an agreement for council consideration.
Hodgkins also said Mechanic Falls remains on schedule in MDOT’s work plan for bridge and intersection repairs. He and council members have begun work on repairs needed at the Town Office (Fix 108). He reported that the state has determined municipalities experienced a shortfall equal to about 44% of promised stabilization funding; Hodgkins said he contacted Representative David Boyer and Senator Bennett and was advised emergency legislation is being submitted to address the gap. Eriks Petersons will present a council-signed bridge-naming letter to the state as a procedural follow-up.
