FPRA discusses Sunrise Theater repairs and orders environmental review for adjacent property

The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency discussed conditions at the Sunrise Theater and initial due diligence on a building adjacent to the Highwaymen Museum.
Commissioner Broderick reported visible stucco delamination and possible roof issues at the Sunrise Theater, recommending the board solicit an inspection to determine salvageability and cost. “There’s definitely some stucco delamination related to roof issues,” Commissioner Broderick said, urging an expert inspection to clarify repair needs.
Board members directed staff to begin the procurement process for inspection and restoration contractors (via RFP) and to pursue transfer of the adjacent property from the city to FPRA. Staff recommended a Phase I environmental review for the adjacent property (a former restaurant/barber shop) and included an option for a Phase II if environmental concerns are found; city counsel confirmed the Phase I would allow roughly 60 days for assessment with an extension built in for a possible Phase II.
Miss Hedges and FPRA staff said they had circulated contract documents to key staff and would proceed on scheduling the environmental work and the building inspection. The board requested a future discussion on further Highwaymen development, the linear park and the adjacent building’s possible uses.
The meeting closed with staff saying these follow-ups would be scheduled for a January or February FPRA meeting.
