Jennifer Fry and Stacy Annoni, speaking for Protect Our Waterways and the Hutchinson Island Committee, described plans for tourism branding, signage and a business association representing roughly 183 island businesses. Speakers emphasized the effort would not create a separate municipality, would not request new services or taxes, and sought city partnership on promotional signage and wayfinding.
Commissioners welcomed the idea but said they need a clear proposal and asked the group to follow standard processes for agenda placement and committee review (for example CRA and planning staff review). Commissioners and staff noted potential concerns about public expectations, transparency and the need to align with city departments and existing neighborhood-recognition processes before committing city resources.
City staff and the mayor said staff will work with the group on next steps, including directing the group to committee channels and preparing answers to specific questions about the group's ask.
