FPUA adopts reasonable-accommodation policy for public requests
Summary
The board adopted Resolution UA2025-24 to formalize how members of the public may request reasonable accommodations; the policy sets timelines, decisionmakers and an appeals path to the director of utilities.
The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority on Dec. 2 adopted a reasonable-accommodation policy to guide how nonemployee individuals request adjustments to FPUA policies, practices or rules.
Staff explained the policy establishes timelines for information requests, identifies decisionmakers in HR and risk management, and provides an appeal route to the director of utilities. Staff emphasized the policy does not cover employees (who have separate procedures).
A board member noted the policy largely documents a process the authority would follow informally and supported codifying it to ensure consistent, timely outcomes for requesters. The board approved Resolution UA2025-24 by roll-call vote.
