Lexington council approves minutes, accepts financial report and authorizes $1.89 million in claims; holds executive session

Councilmember Dora Vivas moved, and John Salem seconded, to approve the minutes of the Jan. 13, 2026 regular meeting; the motion passed by unanimous roll call. Claims and bills totaling $1,886,832.83 were then presented and approved on a motion by Jeremy Roberts, seconded by John Salem. The accounts payable listing in the minutes identifies a Nebraska Public Power District power purchase of $1,130,281.54 among the largest line items.
Council then voted to accept the financial report for December 2025 (moved by John Salem; seconded by Jared Jacob), with a unanimous roll-call vote recorded in the minutes. The council approved a proposed appointment of Keri Fagot to the Library Board (moved by Jeremy Roberts; seconded by John Salem), which carried unanimously.
The council also voted to enter executive session at 5:49 p.m. to discuss contractual negotiations; the motion was moved by John Salem and seconded by Jeremy Roberts. The minutes show the council returned to open session at 6:27 p.m. The recorded minutes do not disclose the substance of the executive-session discussion.
