Crawford council approves liaison appointments, service contracts, hiring and several routine items

The Crawford City Council handled a set of routine appointments, operational approvals and procurement decisions at its Oct. 8 meeting.
Appointments and events: The council approved liaison appointments to local entities: Christopher Dean was named golf liaison and Swann liaison, Brent Gebbie was named Park and Hospital liaison, April Grant the library and NNDC liaison, and Tony Storbeck the Villa liaison. The council also approved the parade route for Crawford High School Homecoming.
Public safety and operations: The council approved an agreement with the Crawford Rural Fire Protection District #4. For the water plant, the council voted to extend the current Hach service contract to continue servicing two turbidity meters rather than purchasing parts for in-house maintenance.
Facilities and personnel: The council approved a $1,450.00 quote from Northwest Nebraska Tree Service to cut and remove trees at the city park (one abstention by April Grant). The council removed Tonita Groskopf from probation and approved a $0.50/hour raise; a separate $0.47/hour raise tied to driver training was tabled. Council also approved hiring Jane Dailey as a full-time temporary employee at $20.00/hour to assist office operations.
Financial and deferred items: Utility deposit refunds to three households were approved. Several items were deferred or tabled: purchase of 31 stop signs for $2,012.60 was moved to the Nov. 12 agenda, repairs to a 2005 Dodge Ram (estimate $3,071.46) received no action, and a request for 5 tons of red rock ($419.00) was postponed until April 2025. The council approved bills and claims pending the mayor's signature and adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
