Board approves regular report from Granite County Medical Center; hospital staff describe vaccine and tick-testing plans

The Granite County board voted to add a designated representative from Granite County Medical Center to regular board-of-health agendas, and hospital staff reported on immunization programs and tick-testing plans.

Jessica Martin, identified as the hospital representative, described protocols for tick submission and testing and said the hospital will accept sealed ticks brought in by residents for periodic testing. "If anyone gets a tick on them and feels like they want to bring it into the hospital, as long as it's in a sealed container, we've been more than happy to take it from them," Jessica said.

Public-health director Harry Robinson reported that the county's master contract is nearing renewal and that vaccine-for-children and adult-vaccine contracts with the State Department of Public Health and Human Services have been renewed. Robinson said the immunization task order is on the day's agenda and that vaccine billing and reimbursements require detailed receipts and administrative work.

Why it matters: the regular hospital report will provide the board with local clinical updates—immunization coverage, communicable-disease signals and community health needs—that inform public-health planning, school outreach and vaccine clinics.

Next steps: the board approved placement of a hospital representative as a regular agenda item; staff will circulate a schedule and the hospital will coordinate periodic updates and outreach plans, including summer flu clinics and school-based vaccinations.

"We will be doing flu shot season again," Robinson said, listing planned stops in Georgetown, Philipsburg and Drummond and noting renewed contract arrangements to supply vaccine for uninsured and underinsured residents.
