Tooele City Council voted June 17 to vacate the northern 9 feet of James Way between Lodestone Way and Industrial Loop Road to support redevelopment within the Peterson Industrial Depot area.
Paul Hanson, the city engineer, described the history of dedications in the depot and said the dedicated width recorded in 2008 was 85 feet. He said the request would reduce the right-of-way to 76 feet while preserving a utility easement for water lines and other infrastructure. Hanson said utilities were notified and offered no objections; the city notified property owners within 300 feet and received affidavits from two of the five abutting owners (the Petersons among them).
Hanson said the adjustment would make the vacated land taxable and allow enhanced development in the depot area. The council closed the public hearing, moved and adopted Ordinance 2026-17 by a 5–0 vote.
Hanson said there are no current plans to vacate additional sections of James Way and that the city attorney and staff followed state code and public-notice requirements for the action.
