Tooele City Council approved a package of budget amendments and set a proposed property tax rate for fiscal year 2026–27 during its June 17 business meeting.
Finance Director Shannon Wimmer told the council the amendments include $1.4 million to reflect funds from a COG grant for the 2400 North project, $712,000 added to the RDA budget for participation projects, $148,000 in insurance proceeds to repair a golf-course net and $70,000 added to the solid-waste fund to cover hauling fees. The council also adopted an interim budget for FY2026–27 and set a proposed tax rate.
"Our certified tax rate is .002527, but we are proposing a tax rate of .002590," Wimmer said, calling the change a 2.49% increase on the certified rate. Using the updated median home value of $382,000, she said the increase equates to about $13.24 a year, or roughly $1.10 per month.
Councilman Hansen moved approval of Resolution 2026-41 (budget amendments) and Councilman McCall seconded; the council approved the motion 5–0. Councilman Gossett moved and Councilwoman Gochis seconded adoption of the proposed tax rate (Resolution 2026-42); that motion also passed 5–0. The council adopted the interim FY2026–27 budget (Resolution 2026-43) by the same margin.
Resident Scott Daegleback addressed the council during public comment about his review of the tentative budget and said he appreciated staff and the mayor taking time to walk through his questions. "The packet that I received was well prepared and presentable," he said.
Wimmer emphasized the property tax rate adopted June 17 is tentative; the final rate will be set after the truth-in-taxation process and a public hearing scheduled for August 19, 2026.
