Palm Bay staff say City Council paused 'Go Roads,' launch pavement study and update road-project timelines

A staff member for the City of Palm Bay Public Works Department told the council that the city has paused the Go Roads program at the direction of the City Council to allow for a comprehensive reevaluation of roadway conditions.
"At the direction of City Council, the Go Roads program was paused to allow for a comprehensive reevaluation of roadway conditions," the staff member said, and added that the department has initiated a citywide pavement condition index study. The department plans to present a pavement management plan to the council when that study is complete.
The staff member said several major transportation projects are proceeding. The widening of St. Johns Heritage Parkway from Malabar Road north to the city limits is in the design phase, and staff are actively pursuing grant funding to help offset future construction costs while coordinating with Brevard County and regional partners.
Along Babcock Street, the staff member reported, two interlocal agreements are in place to support infrastructure upgrades. Those agreements are intended to support the design of a new signalized intersection at Eldron Boulevard and resurfacing between Mariloma Boulevard and Willowbrook Street.
Public Works also reported progress on the Malabar Road widening project. "The PD&E study was complete in December 2025 and design is scheduled to begin in spring of 2026," the staff member said, providing the most specific schedule item mentioned during the update.
Beyond the projects listed, the staff member said Public Works continues to plan roadway widenings and intersection improvements throughout the city with a focus on improving safety and traffic flow and positioning Palm Bay to compete for future grant opportunities.
No formal motions or votes were recorded in the update; the briefing consisted of status reports and proposed next steps, including seeking grant funding and returning to the council with a pavement management plan once the pavement condition index study is complete.
