Cheatham County amends Sycamore Square sign rules; public forum highlights local services, rezoning concerns

Cheatham County commissioners on Feb. 28 amended and approved election-sign guidelines for Sycamore Square property, adding a requirement that signs be taken down within two days after early voting. The amended guideline passed by roll-call vote 8–3, with one commissioner absent.

The amendment adding the two-day removal requirement was offered during Calendar, Rules and Nominating committee business and approved after discussion and recorded votes. Commissioner Connie Mayo moved the amendment; the record shows an 8–3 roll-call approval of the amended guidelines.

During the public forum earlier in the meeting, several residents and local leaders addressed the commission. Ronnie Barron, UT Extension Executive Director, noted that February is Extension Month and said the first 40 students to sign up for 4H would receive $20 off and a free water bottle. Lisa Walker, Cheatham County Historian, stated, "Cheatham County turned 166 years old." Shane Ray, former Pleasant View mayor and Pleasant View fire chief, thanked officials for fire-prevention progress and said he "would like to see better planning for the rezoning." District 3 resident Keegan Bilodeau asked for more local services within the county.

County Mayor Kerry McCarver also announced that he had appointed Grady Perry to the PVUD Board with a term beginning March 1, 2022 and ending June 29, 2025.

The consent calendar — which included routine reports, a Beer Board permit for Shaan Patel (New Hope Market) and a list of approved notaries — was approved by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 6:43 P.M.
