Board ratifies federation contract; NEA negotiators say talks nearly complete

The Santa Fe Public Schools Board on June 11 voted to ratify a collective bargaining agreement presented by the Santa Fe Federation of School Employees.
David Olguin, representing the federation, told the board the membership had "unanimous votes from everybody" to ratify the contract and asked the board to act. The superintendent noted cover materials showing the cost implications; the board moved, seconded and approved the ratification by voice vote.
Separately, at the start of the meeting Vivian Roybal, vice president for ESPs and co-negotiator with NEA New Mexico Santa Fe, updated the board on NEA negotiations and said talks were continuing and were expected to conclude in the "next couple of weeks" before ratification votes from members.
What happened next: The federation contract was ratified by the board. NEA New Mexico Santa Fe indicated its internal negotiations and member ratification remain pending; the board did not vote on the NEA unit at this meeting.
