Local watershed groups brief CCRPC clean-water advisory committee on restoration and outreach projects

Representatives from Lewis Creek Association, Friends of the Winooski River and Winooski Natural Resources updated the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission Clean Water Advisory Committee on wetland restoration, riparian plantings, dam removal planning and school-based water-quality education.
Kate, a representative of the Lewis Creek Association, told the Clean Water Advisory Committee about ongoing wetland restoration work (including a site in Hinesburg), upcoming stormwater treatment projects and ongoing water-quality sampling and school outreach.
Michele, from Friends of the Winooski River, reported on riparian planting efforts in Huntington and Jericho, a recent StormSmart workshop and a flood scoping study intended to guide resilience work along the Winooski watershed.
Dan Koenemann of Winooski Natural Resources described collaboration with Champlain Water District to identify lands that influence drinking-water quality, noted work on dam removals, student projects through UVM, riparian buffer plantings and tree-planting initiatives. He said Basin 5 may pursue crediting older tree-planting projects as part of CWSP phosphorus crediting.
Committee members thanked presenters and asked staff to circulate additional materials. The meeting record shows no formal policy decisions were made during these presentations; presenters requested outreach help and community input on specific projects.
The committee approved the Oct. 7, 2025 meeting minutes earlier in the session; the approval was moved by Keith Oborne and seconded by Lisa Cicchetti and recorded as approved unanimously.
The committee is expected to continue monitoring these partner projects as they move from planning into implementation.
