Gifts announced included $2,550 from the KM Lions for FCCLA projects, $500 to the KM youth fishing team, fabric valued at $875 from Cassin Laser Graphics/Cassin Variety, $1,257.32 from the KM PTA for field trips, $100 from Empower Your Wellness, $200 from Mercur Financial Group, and a $5,000 donation in parts and labor from Claus Alberts for repair work at district facilities.
After the gifts resolution passed, the board approved a purchase agreement to acquire two residential lots for the district’s home-building construction program. Board members said district negotiators secured the lots for $65,000 each from an original listing around $68,000. Trustees described the program as a hands-on career/technical education opportunity that produces affordable starter homes and provides students with construction experience.
Board members discussed the tax treatment of district-owned vacant lots and noted that while most school property is tax-exempt, certain parcels (including farmed acreage and some vacant lots) can carry property tax obligations. Trustees said developing starter homes and selling them to families is part of the program’s goal to help attract families to the district and support workforce training.
Both the gifts resolution and the purchase agreement passed by voice votes.
