Town of Jackson trustees set July public hearing to consider new town code and code-enforcement officer ordinance

Trustee Jim Parker moved on June 8 that the Town of Jackson introduce two ordinances for public hearing and consideration next month: one entitled “Code Enforcement Officer” and a second entitled “The Ordinance adopting and enacting a new code for the Town of Jackson, Louisiana, Providing for the repeal of certain ordinances not included therein; Providing a penalty for the violation thereof; Providing for the manner of amending such code; and providing when such code and this ordinance shall become effective.” Trustee Don Havard seconded the motion and it passed.

The board scheduled a public hearing on the proposed measures for July 14, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. The motion to introduce the ordinances authorized staff to publish notice and prepare materials for the hearing; the minutes do not record final text or an ordinance number for either proposal.

If adopted, the first ordinance would establish a Code Enforcement Officer position; the second would repeal and replace portions of the town’s ordinances by adopting a consolidated code. The minutes record only the titles as presented to the board and do not include legislative findings, staffing details, or budget impacts.

The next formal step recorded in the minutes is the public hearing; the board made no final determination on either ordinance at the June 8 meeting.
