Rome board appoints election staff, advances policy updates and personnel actions

During its June 15 meeting the Rome City School District Board of Education appointed election inspectors, assistant poll clerks and poll supervisors for the June 16, 2026 school budget vote, aligning 10 school election districts with the city election wards and authorizing the superintendent or designee to fill vacancies. The list of appointees was included on the meeting agenda (page 22).

The board also appointed Sandra Russell as the poll clerk responsible for casting and canvassing affidavit ballots; the canvass was scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. at the district office (266268 West Dominic Street). The resolution directed the clerk to notify any persons whose affidavit ballots are rejected and to report canvass results in accordance with New York State Education Law.

On personnel and policy matters, the board accepted the retirement of a long-serving custodian, approved memoranda of agreement with Local 200 (SEIU) for sick day approval and with CEA Local 1000 for retroactive pay, and approved an administrative title change renaming the coordinator of the centralized tutoring program to Coordinator of District Support Programs effective July 1, 2026. The board approved first readings of several policies (broadcasting/recording meetings; virtual/blended learning; students in temporary housing; alcohol and drug testing of drivers) and retired and renumbered other policies as presented.

The board approved a superintendent conference request (Ithaca, July 2417 cost not to exceed $1,500) and set the annual reorganizational meeting for Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting concluded with a motion to enter executive session on personnel matters; the board stated it would not return to public session.
