Orange County proclaims appreciation for Cold Weather Cots collaborators

The proclamation named Heather Pack Aponte as the county’s Homeless Programs Coordinator and thanked partner congregations, the Inter‑Faith Council for Social Services and volunteer groups for meal preparation, donations and operational support. The County highlighted the Town of Chapel Hill’s assistance in providing use of a former police department building as a seasonal site for the program.
The Board approved the proclamation by unanimous motion and posed for a photo with program staff and community partners. Commissioners noted the program’s growth since 2023 and the need for continued funding and cross‑departmental support to operate the service during dangerously low temperatures.
