The Corte Madera Sanitary District No. 2 board authorized the Phase 3 Category‑5 sewer rehabilitation project at its June 16 meeting, advancing work on repair segments identified in the sewer master plan.
Deputy District Manager Bernanda Sonich described the targeted repairs—old pipes with infiltration, sags, cracks and root intrusions—in locations including Taylor Lane, Pepper Avenue, Paradise Drive, Montecito/Prince Royal Passage and Manzanita Avenue. Staff estimated construction at about $2.42 million, a contingency of roughly $363,000 and construction management costs near $242,000, bringing the total estimated project cost to approximately $3.25 million. The base bid authorization requested advertising and award authority for up to $2.8 million plus a 15% contingency.
Board members discussed sequencing, seasonal constraints and coordination with the town’s pavement project and noted that much of the work is trenchless pipe replacement or open cut that is backfilled and temporarily paved as work proceeds. Staff proposed a late‑summer/early‑fall start and a five‑ to six‑month construction window. The board approved the contract authorization and bid advertisement unanimously.
Next steps: staff will advertise the project for bids, evaluate responsive bidders and return with an award recommendation and construction schedule coordination with town paving and affected neighborhoods.
