Members table JK Call snow-removal contract after citing discrepancies

Members at an emergency meeting in South Thomaston voted 2-0 to table further action on the town’s snow-removal contract with JK Call, citing discrepancies between the written agreement and what the town has been paying.

The motion to table was offered by a board member who said the item should be taken up at the next regular meeting. Another member seconded the motion, and the tally was recorded as two in favor, none opposed.

The chair said the pause was prompted by a mismatch between contract terms and payments already processed and that she and a colleague wanted time to compare the contract language against billing. “We’re finding a discrepancy with the contract and what we’re paying them. Sue and I want to have the opportunity to go through the contracts and compare what’s going on before we make a decision on it,” the chair said.

Members discussed timing and payment cadence for winter services, noting that some reimbursement comes from the state Department of Transportation. One attendee asked how many payments are made and confirmed that winter pay periods run through the spring, with payments typically processed twice a month during winter months.

No changes were made to the contract at the emergency meeting; the board member who moved to table said the item will be placed on the next meeting agenda so members can review the full contract language and reconcile invoices with the agreement.

Next steps: staff and two members will review the contract and return the item to the next meeting for a vote or further action.
