Redevelopment Authority OKs shared parking for regional wellness center after staff reports 12,000 pool visits in three weeks

The Redevelopment Authority approved a shared-parking agreement that will let the regional wellness center and the adjacent school use each other’s lots for overflow during events.

A presenter for the wellness center told the board that the pool has "already over 12,000 visitors" in three weeks and that twilight swims are now held every Wednesday because staff and budget allowed it. The presenter also said the pool manager was promoted to assistant athletic director and that assistant managers have been moved up to cover operations; the presenter praised an employee named Janessa for maintaining control of operations.

Staff described a prior property transfer in which the city gave a small triangle of property to the school so the school could complete its softball parking lot; in exchange the city received a strip of property on the west side of the tract that will serve as an additional drive and allow shared access to both parking areas. "We thought it would be a prudent thing to do to enter a shared use parking agreement so that when those times occur both parties expect and do not object to the use by the other of the parking facilities," the presenter said.

A member moved to approve the shared-parking agreement and Tara Ecman seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. The chair asked members to sign the agreement after the meeting and staff confirmed the agreement matches an emailed transfer document colleagues previously received.
