Jasper council adopts ordinance on adoption rules, approves appropriations and opioid-settlement spending

Council also considered Resolution 2026-15, approving use of opioid-settlement funds for the Jasper Police Department’s overdose response equipment and training; staff noted the chief removed an anticipated suction device from the request, lowering the total requested amount, and the resolution was adopted on a voice vote. The council accepted several small donations (including $100 to the Philharmonic Music program and a $1,000 gift to the volunteer fire department).
In other business, the RDA reported a final swimming-pool cost of $9,634,113 and strong early pool usage (Tom Morman reported about 12,000 swimmers in three weeks), which council members said could prompt future expansion discussions. The meeting closed after procedural updates and staff introductions.
