The Jasper Utility Service Board voted June 15 to authorize an electric rate study with a not-to-exceed amount of $15,000 and directed staff to finalize a consultant choice and scope.
General Manager Rob Young told the board the utility’s last electric rate study was in 2022 and staff does not anticipate major rate changes but wants to reassess service-area costs, the electric tracker and recommended cash balances ahead of a new electric building design effort. "Tonight requesting a not to exceed amount be approved at $15,000," Young said. He clarified that a $12,000 figure on printed materials had been superseded to allow a slightly larger scope.
Young said staff is discussing two consulting options—Baker Tilly and Cronin Associates—and will announce the selected partner in the coming weeks. The board moved, seconded and approved the not-to-exceed authorization by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will finalize the consultant agreement, circulate the scope of work to the board and schedule a rate-study review with the Water/Electric committee when a draft is available.
