The Town of Marlborough Board of Selectmen on March 3 reviewed its FY26‑27 fleet replacement schedule and multi‑year capital plan and deferred a decision on using Automatic Traffic Enforcement funds to buy a new single‑axle dump truck.
Town Manager David Porter told the board the town should include fire apparatus in the five‑year fleet plan and said the price for a single‑axle dump truck has risen since the last purchase in 2021. He recommended the board consider tapping Public Works or General Government capital non‑recurring (CNR) reserves to cover the increase if the purchase proceeds.
Selectman Anthony Bratz moved to table the item about using Automatic Traffic Enforcement Safety Device program funds to purchase the new dump truck until the March 17, 2026 meeting. Chair Susan McFarland seconded the motion, and the board voted unanimously to table the item.
Board members and the town manager discussed possible line‑item reductions and reallocations to limit budget impacts. The board set a special budget meeting for March 11, 2026 at 4 p.m. to continue review of the capital and operating budget; Ms. McFarland made the motion to set the special meeting and Ms. Concodello seconded.
The decision to table leaves options open: the town can pursue the purchase later, use ATE funds, or draw on CNR reserves depending on updated quotes and budget choices. The board did not take further action on the dump truck at the March 3 meeting.
