Egg Harbor Township School District leaders on June 16 announced two recognitions and new supports aimed at expanding multilingual instruction and inclusive education.
Dr. Michelle Shriner, supervisor of world languages, said the districts Spanish-language heritage program (Espanol Blantes) has been designated a New Jersey Department of Education model program; more than 450 students in grades 5through 12 participate in levels designed to advance literacy in Spanish. Students described the program as culturally affirming and academically rigorous.
Separately, the districts special-education office described awarding of the New Jersey All-In grant, a three-year initiative to advance inclusive education practices. "We're hoping by next year to be able to increase our inclusion by 10% or more," said Special Education Supervisor Pam Henley, who described expanded professional development, coaching and community nights with 36 community partners already involved.
Administrators said the combined recognition and grant work will allow Egg Harbor Township to host visiting districts interested in replicating successful practices and to pilot coaching and schedule adjustments that make inclusion more meaningful across the district.
