Orrville council approves two rezonings to convert residential lots to commercial

The Orrville City Council voted April 6 to rezone two separate areas, approving Ordinance A-26 to reclassify a narrow parcel on the east side of Ella Street and Ordinance B-26 to reclassify three parcels on the west side of Sterling Avenue from R-4 (Residential) to C-3 (Commercial).
Squirrell moved to adopt both ordinances at third reading; Lax seconded A-26 and Mace seconded B-26. Both measures passed on council voice votes. Council discussion noted the Ella Street change was requested by the Dravenstott landowners to clean up parcel boundaries, and the Sterling Avenue request followed demolition of a house that left the lots essentially vacant.
Council members described the rezonings as corrections to parcel classifications to enable commercial use on small, narrow lots. No separate amendments or roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes. The ordinances will be incorporated into the city's zoning map under Chapter 1101 of the Codified Ordinances.
