Safety-Service director presents 2025 annual report: property-maintenance, recycling and record pool attendance

Director Wheeler reviewed the Safety-Service Department's 2025 annual report during the Feb. 2 council meeting, highlighting property-maintenance enforcement, waste-collection totals and municipal recreation statistics.
Wheeler said the department issued zoning certificates and handled 70 property-maintenance code violations in 2025; staff closed 69 of those cases after corrective action. On waste and recycling, the department reported about 6.7 million pounds of refuse collected in 2025 and 954,000 pounds recycled, a 14.1% recycling rate that Wheeler said was slightly below 2024.
Wheeler also reported record pool attendance with an average of 285 visitors, and summarized other department activity including tax abatements, grants, performing-arts support and road projects.
