District staff described GMP 1 (phase 1) for Salida Primary School as a renovation of the multi-purpose room to provide an on-campus eating space and remove aging bleachers and carpeting; the GMP presented was $407,477 and the board approved the recommendation by voice vote.
The board then approved a GMP of $561,575 to replace an aging chiller for the central cafeteria. Presenters noted that the existing chiller is past typical service life and parts are no longer readily available, making replacement necessary to avoid recurring failures.
The largest item was GMP Amendment 25 for a new performing arts center on the Walden Grove campus: a 475-seat auditorium with associated site work, landscaping and a small number of additional parking spaces. The district and its contractors said the facility will serve both school and community uses; the GMP for the project is $12,589,580. Board members described the facility as a long-sought community resource and approved the project by voice vote.
Board members asked about timeline and exterior finishes; staff said groundwork and procurement would begin promptly with an anticipated closeout in early August 2027, making the center available for school use in the 2027 school year. The projects will be paid from previously authorized bond funds noted in the meeting materials.
