Middlebury board approves broad policy updates and routine financial items, including procurement and donation acceptances

The changes include technical corrections and statutory language required by Indiana code affecting policies on superintendent employment, personal communication devices, disability discrimination (section 504/ADA), student behavior, leaves of absence and other administrative practices. After two readings, the board approved the policy updates by unanimous vote (5–0).
On finance and procurement, the board approved the annual treasurer's bonds (described by Dr. Yoder as an insurance policy to protect against malfeasance). The board also approved recommended food service bids (recommended by food service director Sarah Reef Snyder) to secure bulk food purchases for the coming school year, and reapproved an updated micro purchase threshold to align with changes in Indiana code for certain federally funded purchases. All measures passed 5–0.
Dr. Yoder explained a resolution to reallocate a portion of available cash from the debt service fund to offset the operations-fund impact of SEA 1’s increased supplemental homestead credit for the current year. He emphasized that because this action is a transfer, "it doesn't change our tax levy or tax rate." The board adopted that resolution 5–0.
The board also accepted donations reported by Dr. Snyder: $500 from the Middlebury Optimist Club to Northridge Middle School and $700 from Jayco to the Middle School (part of a summer 5K). The meeting concluded with expressions of thanks to staff and an adjournment to executive session.
