The Sahuarita Unified District governing board approved two principal appointments on motion during its March 2026 meeting, confirming Brian Huey as principal of Copper View Elementary and Christopher Jackson as principal of Wrightson Ridge K‑8, both effective July 1, 2026.
Superintendent Dr. Manuel Valenzuela described a competitive, multi-step selection process that included screening, interviews, presentations and a committee of district and community stakeholders. Valenzuela said the teams reviewed 15–16 applicants for each role and recommended the candidates as the consensus selections.
Valenzuela noted Huey’s long community ties and prior roles at Sahuarita schools and said Huey framed his return as, "I'm coming home." Huey, who spoke after the board vote, thanked the board and described his family’s long association with Copper View. He said he looks forward to building on the foundation left by the outgoing principal.
Valenzuela described Christopher Jackson as a 20-plus year educator with principalship experience across K–8 settings and cited Jackson’s recognition by professional associations. Jackson thanked the board, spoke about servant leadership and community engagement, and said he was "immensely grateful" for the opportunity.
Both appointments were approved by motion and voice vote. The transcript does not record individual roll-call tallies. Human resources will finalize contracts and begin standard onboarding ahead of the July 1 start date.
