Teachers describe classroom changes after SEF/CEEF mini-grants; board hears record number of awards

At Wednesday’s Sahuarita Unified School District meeting, SEF and teacher grantees presented examples of classroom enhancements funded by mini-grants and community donations.
Judy White of the SEF noted the foundation supported a record number of projects this year and that mini-grants are available online for the 2026–27 grant year (applications due Aug. 15). Presenters described an array of funded activities: field trips for fifth graders, sensory and bilingual books, AI-enhanced media projects, a district Family Resource Center outfitted with shelving and bins, mid‑tech AAC devices for minimally speaking students, PBIS reward platforms, extra math fluency programs, music equipment including tuner/metronomes and bucket‑drumming kits, and maker‑space cosplay projects.
Teachers emphasized the grants removed barriers (for example, paying student lunches so all could attend events) and increased student engagement. Several presenters thanked a donor named “Steve” and the SEF for enabling travel to competitions and enrichment experiences.
Board members praised the community partnership and noted the grants augment classroom instruction without supplanting core district funding.
Presenters asked staff and educators to encourage summer collaboration on future grant ideas; SEF announced the 26–27 application window is open.
