The Sahuarita Unified District governing board used part of its March meeting to recognize staff, volunteers and students for recent achievements and service.
Assistant Superintendent Scott DS read the nomination for Rachel Grihava as district support staff employee of the month; the board applauded Grihava for supporting students in small-group instruction and daily classroom needs. The board also announced that Janice Haden, a music teacher at Sahuarita Intermediate School, received an Arizona Music Educators Association advocacy award for launching an instrument-access program to ensure students who wanted to participate in instrumental music could do so.
Mr. DS presented Frederick (Fred) Hunt as the district27s Volunteer of the Year for his long-term tutoring and one-on-one reading support at Sopori Elementary and Wrightson Ridge School. Hunt accepted the recognition and thanked the board.
The board also presented "Leader in Character" recognitions to students across grade levels from Sahuarita Primary through high school. Named students included Elena Frasier, Carter Wilmore, Sophia Basi, Meredith Silman, Braden Johansson, Oscar Abraham Rodriguez Martinez, Rioberto Aristig Martinez, Haley Ku, Sebastian Asment, Kora (Cora) Patterson, Jayla Espinosa Garcia and Shafia Stewart. Parents were invited to join for photographs.
Board members framed the recognitions as part of the district27s emphasis on student character and community partnerships.
Why it matters Public recognition highlights volunteer contributions and awards that support student access to arts and academic programs. The district also promoted a band trip to Philadelphia and asked for community contributions to help offset travel costs.
Next steps Recipients will be featured in district communications; staff invited community support for the marching band's July trip to Philadelphia.
