The Mount Vernon City Council on Monday approved street closures for several 2026 community events and passed related IDOT closure requests for two parades. After City Manager Nathan McKenna presented four closure requests, Tourism Director Angela Schrum said the dates for Market Days (agenda item 9-A) were incorrect; Schrum asked that item be corrected and placed on the next meeting agenda.
Council Member Jay Tate moved to amend the prior motion and approve three street-closure requests—agenda items 9-B through 9-D—which cover the Mt. Vernon Brewers Festival (June 6), Fall Fest activities and parade (Sept. 24–26, with parade staging and route details), and Christmas Activities and Parade (Dec. 5). Council Member Joe Gliosci seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the council approved resolutions requesting IDOT permission to temporarily close State Route 15 and State Route 37 for the Christmas Parade on Dec. 5, 2026 (Resolution #2026-05) and for the Fall Fest Parade on Sept. 26, 2026 (Resolution #2026-06). The approved parade routes include Main Street (State Route 15) between 7th and 10th streets and certain segments of 10th Street (State Route 37) and Broadway, as described on the agenda.
The Market Days street-closure request was deferred for correction and will return to a future agenda.
