Wymore approves Ordinance 690 and sets interview panel for police chief candidate

The Wymore City Council on Jan. 7 suspended the three-reading requirement and adopted Ordinance 690 to update the number of members on the Police Department Advisory Committee.
City Attorney Andy Carothers read Ordinance 690 aloud after a motion by Council member Sue Sapp to suspend the three readings was approved 4–0, and passage of the ordinance carried 4–0.
Separately, Police Department representative Mark Meint reported that items had been removed from the department’s storage unit and that an applicant for police chief had submitted paperwork accepted for certification by reciprocity with the Nebraska Police Academy. Council members agreed to interview the applicant before moving to academy testing and background checks. Mayor Collin Meints said he would circulate a list of suggested members for the interview panel; council consensus was to include Mark, Neil Van Boening, someone from the Police Department Advisory Committee and another law enforcement officer. Mark Meint suggested including a representative from the school.
The meeting minutes show the council will proceed with interviews first and then determine whether to direct the academy to proceed with testing and background checks based on interview results.
