Wymore council approves claims, payroll and routine business; public questions insurance and bonuses

The Wymore City Council on Feb. 4 handled routine business including approval of minutes, claims and payroll, training registrations, and other motions, and it heard reports from city staff and the public.
On a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Curt Oblinger, the council approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The council then approved Claims and Payroll with an exception for check numbers 30825, 30832 and 30849; the Sales and Use Tax ACH payment to the State of Nebraska was corrected from $9,391.74 to $9,691.74 in the claims record.
Subsequent motions approved specific checks: a motion by Neil Van Boening, seconded by Curt Oblinger, approved check numbers 30825 and 30849 (the transcript records that Max Allen abstained and Mayor Collin Meints voted in the absent Sue Sapp’s place). A later motion by Max Allen, seconded by Neil Van Boening, approved check number 30832 (the transcript records Curt Oblinger abstained and Mayor Meints voted in Sue Sapp’s absence). The council approved City Treasurer Krystal Rutti’s registration for the League of Nebraska Municipalities Mid-Winter Conference recordings (Feb. 23–24) for $410 on a motion by Neil Van Boening, seconded by Max Allen. The council also approved Council member Neil Van Boening’s conference registration and Monday lunch on a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Curt Oblinger; the transcript records Neil abstained and Mayor Meints voted in Sue Sapp’s absence.
On a motion by Curt Oblinger, seconded by Max Allen, the council tabled discussion of Education Approval for EMS until the next meeting. The council later moved into executive session at 8:30 p.m. (motion by Max Allen, seconded by Curt Oblinger) and returned to open session at 9:20 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
During public comment resident Lawrence Mallam asked about an employee bonus he read about in the paper and why he had not received it; Mayor Collin Meints said the oversight would be corrected and Mallam would receive the $25 in Community Cash. Mallam also asked about insurance for cemetery mower contractor Chad Kleavland; City Attorney Andy Carothers said the city’s contractor insurance requirement typically requires a certificate of insurance and recommended that Kleavland contact him for assistance.
The Police Department reported a dog clinic set for March 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. and noted two additional applications for the department, one uncertified and one from out of state that had not yet submitted a Wymore application. The Police Department Committee reported no new developments on current applicants.
