The Wymore City Council voted Feb. 4 to accept a $6,000 bid for the Sam Wymore Days fireworks show and approved related facility use and street closures.
Representatives of the Sam Wymore Days Committee presented two bids: $4,500 with a reduced show or $6,000 to maintain the existing show. On a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Neil Van Boening, the council accepted the $6,000 bid with payment from Keno funds.
The council also approved use of the Community Center, Park House and city parks and authorized closure of the South Camp Grounds for the celebration, including necessary street closures.
Both motions carried on unanimous recorded votes at the Feb. 4 meeting. Council members said they preferred to keep the full fireworks show this year and use Keno funds to cover the cost.
