Wymore council approves routine business, staff travel, holiday bonuses and fire department appointments

At its Nov. 19 meeting, the Wymore City Council approved routine business and a set of administrative and personnel items.
Consent and financial actions included approval of the previous meeting minutes and the Treasurer's Report (motions by Max Allen), and a motion to approve Claims & Payroll while excluding checks #30568 and #30585 (motion carried 4-0). The council later approved check #30585 (motion carried 3-0 with Max Allen abstaining) and check #30568 (motion carried 3-0 with Curt Oblinger abstaining). The minutes record the roll of council members Collin Meints (Mayor), Max Allen, Sue Sapp, Curt Oblinger and Neil Van Boening; City Attorney Andy Carothers was absent.
Personnel and event approvals in the second segment included a motion to approve "Janet" to attend the 2026 Nebraska Clerks Institute and Academy (March 15-20, 2026), approved 4-0. The council also approved holding an employee appreciation dinner on Dec. 13 at the community center and authorized Christmas bonuses for all city employees (motion carried 4-0). The council approved a "treasure hunt" community-cash donation in $10 increments up to $100, and discussed synchronizing downtown holiday lighting with the living nativity and Santa appearances on Dec. 13 for the Cruise Under the Lights event.
Fire-department matters included approval of a new member, Jennifer Heckman, whom Fire Chief Mark Meints said had been active with the department's supporting "friends" group and whose husband is also an active member; the council approved her membership 4-0. The council also approved the department's list of elected officers, including Chief Mark Meints and 1st Assistant Chief Collin Meints, among others (motion carried 4-0).
Mayor Collin Meints adjourned the meeting at 7:33 p.m.
