Council updates working groups; emergency preparedness team to pursue CERT training

The presiding official announced that Councilmember Gad has been named chair of a newly active interpersonal violence committee, which recently held a meeting with representatives from several nonprofits. Councilmembers said they plan to share information later this year about public-service announcements and other outreach stemming from that work.
Councilmember Weiner described plans from the emergency preparedness working group to encourage council members to complete CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) certification. The program includes a 12‑hour, self-paced online course and an 8‑hour live session; Weiner said the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is coordinating dates and the council will facilitate the classes. He said the working group will send questions to area departments and partner agencies to identify where council members can assist during emergencies without getting in the way of departmental operations.
