Wymore council approves pay ordinance, cemetery grant and utility upgrades

The Wymore City Council on Oct. 1, 2025, unanimously approved Ordinance 687, an ordinance establishing compensation for city officers and employees, and authorized several contracts and procurements affecting utilities and city property.
Attorney Andy Carothers presented Ordinance 687 and the council agreed to waive the three required readings before approving the measure. The waiver passed 4-0, and the ordinance to set city compensation then passed 4-0. Council discussion noted wages for part‑time library staff, the utility superintendent and seasonal pool employees; the council agreed to place any Utility Superintendent wage adjustments on the next meeting agenda for further consideration.
The council authorized Mayor Collin Meints to sign a Thomas Foundation grant application to fund a new fence at the Wymore Cemetery (motion carried 4-0). The city attorney said the completed grant application will include the cost of grass seed tied to the recent Gambles building demolition and stabilization work and that a final report on demolition is due to the state by Nov. 1.
On utility matters, the council approved a Nebraska Public Power District contract after Carothers said he found no objectionable terms (4-0). Utility Superintendent Tim Sedlacek presented two bids to replace seven distribution poles; the council accepted a $25,350 bid from W Energy Solutions of Abilene, Kansas, citing faster completion and minimal outages (motion carried 4-0).
Other procurement and capital decisions included approving a change in specifications for the house at 719 N. 7th St. from a patio to a composite deck — a change described by staff as adding approximately $10,000 to the project cost (motion carried 4-0) — and approving the purchase of an 18‑ft Christmas tree with ornament package and topper after insurance and salvage considerations (motion carried 4-0).
The council tabled a proposed EMS grant acceptance (awarded from the Cattleman’s Ball) until the next meeting because EMS Chief Shawna Argo could not attend, and it deferred recodification with Municipal Code Services pending clarification about adding zoning regulations (motion to table recodification carried 4-0). City Attorney Carothers reported receipt of a quitclaim deed for 422 N. 7th St from Harry Lovell.
The meeting concluded with routine claims and payroll actions recorded earlier in the agenda, including separate votes approving previously held checks with recorded abstentions. The session adjourned at 8:41 PM.
