Wymore council approves routine finances, clears asbestos removal and OKs street closure for vendor fair

Mayor Collin Meints and the Wymore City Council on Feb. 18 approved routine meeting minutes and financial items, authorized asbestos removal at a city-acquired dilapidated property and voted to close part of 7th Street for a vendor fair in April.

At the start of the meeting the council voted to approve the minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report. Councilmember Max Allen moved to approve claims and payroll with an initial exception for check #30874; the council later approved check #30874 after a separate motion. The minutes record the approval of check #30874 and also note an abstention by Curt Oblinger.

During discussion of city-owned dilapidated buildings, Councilmember Neil Van Boening asked whether insurance had been determined for any property the city had acquired. City Attorney Andrew Carothers said he would contact Fred Wiebelhaus to verify insurance and other details. City Superintendent Tim Sedlacek asked whether the council wanted him to proceed with asbestos removal; the council gave the go‑ahead to remove the asbestos.

Rebecca Lillibridge asked whether permits were required for food trucks and a vendor fair planned at the Boujee Boutique in April. "There are no permits required by our ordinances," City Attorney Andrew Carothers told the council, and members suggested blocking the southbound lane in front of the building for safety. Councilmember Max Allen moved, and Councilmember Neil Van Boening seconded, to close 7th Street southbound from E to D from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 25; the motion carried.

The minutes record that the council set the "Education Approval for EMS" for the next agenda. The meeting adjourned at 8:58 p.m.
