The Streator City Council considered and moved forward on a slate of routine ordinances, resolutions and appointments during its meeting following the tornado update.
Council members voted on Ordinance 20269 to adopt low-speed and non-highway vehicle regulations for the city; staff said the ordinance would take effect July 1 and would be supported by an informational trifold available at city hall. Councilmember Scott Carpenter was recognized for community outreach on the item.
The council approved a highway-permit resolution for Cruise Night (Resolution 202625) to temporarily close portions of Illinois Route 18 and reduce lanes on Illinois Route 23 for the event. Council also set a rental fee for the Anderson Fields Clubhouse (Resolution 202626).
On public-safety equipment and capital projects, the council reviewed a purchase of a mass spectrometer for the fire department (Resolution 202627) and approved a construction contract for repairs to the fire department training facility (Resolution 202628) to TJ Mosley Construction Company. The council also authorized solicitation of bids for several surplus properties (Resolution 202629) and awarded a pavement-maintenance contract for the Spring Lake Road seal-coat project (Resolution 202630), with members clarifying project limits and jurisdiction.
Clerk calls and roll-call procedures were used for each item; the council approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, financial reports and a fund warrant totaling $793,228.38. The mayor presented mayoral appointments to the Streator Library Board of Trustees, reappointing Dave Reed, Darcy Molo and Gary Wheeler for terms ending July 31, 2029, and the clerk called the roll on those appointments.
Other routine business included the annual oath administered to the liquor advisory board and announcements of upcoming community events. Council members also used the floor to thank first responders and staff for the tornado response and to note personnel promotions and service anniversaries.
