The Streator City Council voted to appoint Yates McLaclin as the city's new manager and authorized an employment agreement at its May meeting. Mayor and council members said the hire follows a municipal search and the retirement of the previous manager on April 30.
McLaclin, whom the council announced as the appointee, was described by council members as a senior policy analyst with the Will County Governmental League who has municipal experience through internships in Lake Forest and Normal and a master's degree in public administration. Council members said his background includes budgeting, communications and community engagement work. The council recorded a motion and second before the clerk called the roll and confirmed the appointment.
Accepting the appointment, McLaclin thanked the council and said he's "really looking forward to moving to Streator with my family" and to "start building trust through consistency." Council members welcomed him and his family to the city.
Along with the appointment, the council passed a resolution authorizing an employment agreement for the city manager. Council members said the action formalizes compensation and start-date arrangements discussed during the search; the council noted the new manager is expected to begin duties on June 1.
