Chestnut bike spine plans finalized; construction PO issued for Chestnut segment

A city presenter described the Chestnut and Edge Hill project plans at BPAC on June 15, focusing on the Chestnut urban-spine bikeway.
The Chestnut segment is roughly 2.36 miles, crosses nine signals and includes a mix of concrete-protected bikeways, painted crossbikes for wayfinding, and lane reconfiguration that generally reduces vehicle lane widths to create protected space. Presenters noted constrained sections where only smaller buffers or flex-post protection fit, and discussed interaction points with WeGo transit stops and the railroad crossing.
The presenter said the Chestnut portion’s plans are final and that a construction purchase order has been cut for that segment; the Edge Hill portion is about 90% complete and on a different timeline. Commissioners and WeGo representatives urged better mechanisms for detailed plan review (for example via a plan subcommittee) because detailed comments on drainage, protection width and intersection design are difficult to make in a one-hour public meeting when plans are displayed on a screen.
The presenter offered to distribute the full plan set for more thorough review and follow up with the commission.
