The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission convened June 15 in Nashville with its newly seated chair calling the meeting to order and completing roll call for commissioners including Matthew Kushing, Katherine McDonald, Alvin Haney, Chris Wyman, Daniel Calparella, Carrie Rogers and Winston Wright; the commission noted a vacancy after John Norris’s recent resignation.
Commissioners moved to approve the May minutes and then approved the night’s agenda without recorded opposition. A commissioner thanked staff for the completeness of the minutes and the action-item list.
In closing remarks the chair framed BPAC’s priorities for the coming term around safety and cross-agency coordination. The chair said Nashville’s pedestrian fatalities had increased about 65% between 2015 and 2024, rising from an average of roughly 21 deaths annually to more than 34, and stressed that no single body can solve the problem alone; the chair called for data-driven, collaborative work across Metro departments, enforcement and community groups.
The commission also noted staff transitions and openings on the panel; Brent Schultz was thanked for his recent service as the NDOT facilitator and two commission vacancies were announced. The meeting adjourned after routine business.
