Local nonprofit awarded $250,000 for Orange County housing and economic stability plan

A local nonprofit will use a $250,000 grant to develop a housing and economic stability plan for Orange County, a presenter told the council.
"T N O C was awarded one of only two $250,000 grants," Crystal Woodrow said, describing the award from a regional health and wellness grant program and explaining that the project focuses on housing stability and workforce pathways.
Woodrow said the program will prioritize collaboration with faith‑based partners, workforce providers and community organizations. She said the grant structure provides $50,000 in year one for planning and that the county’s team will hire a consulting firm to develop the plan; years two and three will support implementation and efforts to leverage additional funding.
Woodrow described frequent emergency requests for help and said the initiative aims to move people from short‑term crisis response to longer‑term stability: "Our goal is this is not putting a band‑aid on the situation. Take the band‑aid off and put a stable plan in place by having voices at the table." She also referenced outreach to local groups for letters of support and named the Orange County Community Foundation and Habitat for Humanity among partners discussed during planning.
Council members and staff praised the competitiveness of the application and asked staff to keep the council informed as the plan develops and the consulting group is engaged. No county funding commitments or contract awards were made during the meeting; Woodrow said the organization would return to update the council as the plan is developed and implementation begins.
