Sanatoga Park Fish Rodeo stalls after township can’t secure hatchery supply

Township parks staff told the Parks and Recreation Board on April 28 that the planned June Fish Rodeo at Sanatoga Park could not be stocked this year because staff were unable to secure a hatchery supply.
"It appears to be a supply issue," Administrative Assistant Samantha Cronrath said, explaining that many hatcheries primarily stock trout, which Cronrath and board members said the park cannot reliably keep alive. The board had requested largemouth bass and sunnies (sunfish), which Cronrath said are less widely available and more expensive.
Cronrath said staff are contacting past suppliers, including Kurtz fish farm, to explore options for next year. Board members suggested alternative species such as panfish, sunfish, perch or carp as possible replacements.
Board member Bob Van Bramer noted trout had been used in nearby rodeos but said Sanatoga Park could not support trout survival in past events. No formal motion was taken; staff will continue outreach to hatcheries and report back to the board.
