Town staff (Nora Yakley) explained this is a recurring, largely administrative choice the town has made since 2021 because the amounts are small, the required paperwork is substantial and allowable uses are narrowly defined. "We have done this for the last four years, five years now," Nora said, explaining the town's past practice of turning allocations over to the county.
During discussion, a virtual attendee, Amy Chan, asked that Vice Mayor Jen either unmute or appear on video to confirm his vote on the record. The council read back a message attributed to Vice Mayor Jen indicating, "so I vote yes," which was accepted and recorded during the vote. After motions and seconds, the council approved opting out and authorizing the county to use the town's allocation.
The action continues Parker's prior approach to intracounty opioid-settlement distributions: rather than administer small awards locally, the town delegates them to the county for handling and disbursement under county procedures.
