The library reported modest gains in circulation in January and presented patron and program statistics as it prepares a slate of March events and minor facility purchases funded by its annual SGIA allocation.
The librarian said circulation “was up by a little bit” and provided monthly figures: 38 new patrons, about 190 computer sessions, 30 study-room sessions, 99 new materials added to the catalog and 78 reference questions answered. The librarian said Libby downloads remain elevated while visits driven by Canopy are still down.
The librarian described the planned use of this year’s SGIA funds to buy new trash cans for the garden and front of the building, to expand certain special-collection purchases tied to awareness months, and to purchase a picnic bench with an accessible design and to extend the back concrete so the bench is wheelchair-accessible. The librarian said those purchases were brought to council last week and that the library is moving forward with the plan.
On programming, the librarian said staff rescheduled a cake-decorating class after the planned instructor, Joanna, was out sick. Last week’s snack-pack program drew 16 children, and regular book clubs and outreach continued. March’s calendar will be busy at the beginning of the month for Read Across America week, with visiting entertainers including magician Jolly Roger (from the Phoenix area) and returning performer Wild Man Phil. The library will run a book crawl on Wednesday, March 4, and a mini-golf family event; staff said some businesses have expressed interest in hosting booths but final participation numbers were not yet confirmed.
Board members asked logistical questions about the book crawl—what type of booth activities would be needed and whether businesses had been contacted. The librarian said outreach is ongoing and that the event will mirror previous Dr. Seuss–style booth activities.
The report closed with the librarian noting that staffing shortages sometimes require rescheduling programs and asking members for continued outreach support. No formal board action was taken on the programming or SGIA purchases at the meeting.
