North Haledon fire department rated PPC 03; officials urge property owners to notify insurers

"The public protection classification (PPC) is now 03; this means that the North Haledon Fire Department ranks in the top 10% in the nation," Ricciardi said. He advised property owners to contact their insurance carriers to notify them of the new PPC.
Mayor Randy George said additional infrastructure — specifically waterline extensions and new fire hydrants installed by the Municipal Utilities Authority — will help the fire department preserve the ISO rating. "When the MUA extends the waterlines in the Borough and installs additional fire hydrants, it will help the Fire Department maintain its ISO rating," the mayor said.
The minutes do not list specific insurance carriers, anticipated premium changes, or a timetable for MUA waterline projects. The announcement was made during the public comment portion of the Nov. 1 work session; no members of the public addressed the council during that period.
The PPC is used by many insurance companies as one factor when setting premiums for personal and commercial property coverage. The borough’s minutes advise property owners to contact their insurers but do not indicate whether the borough or fire department will provide official documentation of the ISO change. The council will consider consent-agenda items and other business at a later council meeting where formal adoption of resolutions occurs.
