District honors students across grades and CTE programs; CTE certifications highlighted
Summary
Baboquivari USD recognized students from PreK through 12th grade for student-of-the-month awards, highlighted CTE certification passers in culinary arts and digital programs, and honored cultural and technical projects during the Sept. 9 board meeting.
Board members and district leaders used the Sept. 9 meeting to recognize dozens of students across campuses for academic and character achievements.
Superintendent Ruin Diaz and campus principals read names and short commendations for primary, intermediate, middle and high school students, noting leadership, perseverance and attendance. Principal Enriquez Benson promoted a literacy night and thanked families; intermediate campus leaders credited community donors and staff for incentives tied to attendance. CTE coordinator Alison Cornell announced that many students passed technical skills assessments in culinary arts, digital photography and digital communications and said the certifications prepare students for workforce or further study.
Cultural programming was also highlighted: a Himdog/history project by a student (Tai Mendes) was described by a faculty member as a classroom project that represented local culture, language and traditions; the presenter said the student’s work will be shared with the community. Board members congratulated students and encouraged continued family involvement. No formal board action resulted from the recognitions.
